About the DVD: Bones Season 4 and Seasons 1-4 Complete Boxset available to own on DVD on 26th October 2009

Gripping crime drama Bones is back for an eagerly-anticipated fourth series on DVD, reuniting feisty forensic anthropologist Temperance Brennan (Emily Deschanel) with charming FBI agent Seeley Booth (David Boreanaz). Released by Twentieth Century Fox Home Entertainment on the 26TH October, Bones Season 4 follows the duos exploits as they solve some of the most complex murder cases and even manage to fit in a trip to London.

Based on the best-selling books by Kathy Reichs Bones delves deep into the complex world of forensic anthropology and the life of its most prolific expert, the highly skilled yet socially inept Dr Temperance Brennan (Deschanel; Spiderman 2, Cold Mountain). Often called upon by the FBI for her uncanny ability to read clues left behind in victims bones, Brennan finds herself paired with an unlikely ally; former army sniper Seeley Booth (Boreanaz; Buffy, Angel). Regularly clashing both personally and professionally the duos dramatically different skills and personalities make them a formidable crime-fighting team.

Season 4 premiere finds anthropologist “Bones” Brennan and FBI Agent Booth in London where they are asked by local officials to lend their expertise to a high-profile murder investigation. In the upcoming season Brennan and Booth will also deal with changes among the “squints” as well as in their own relationship, and a revolving group of graduate students who pitch in to help solve murders with the hope of being offered a more permanent position on the team.

The fourth season of Bones came to an end. In a recent interview with Zap2It, star Emily Deschanel spoke on a couple big plot twists: the return of Zack and the appearance of a Family Guy character.

How was it having Eric Millegan (Zack) back for the finale?
“It’s wonderful to have him back. I enjoy his company so much. I became friends with him over the years, like I have with most of the cast, and it was really hard to not have him around all the time. But that said, when he came back for the finale, it was as if no time had passed. He just walked in, and it was great to act with him again and hang out with him on set. It was a breath of fresh air.”

What can you say about the Stewie Griffin appearance?
“I thought it was such a brilliant crossover kind of episode. … I haven’t seen the end result, but the script was so funny and moving, and it’s kind of got emotion and drama. Basically, in that episode, I ask Booth to father a child with me, and he starts to hallucinate and sees Stewie from ‘Family Guy.’ The way it’s done is to be believable. I mean, if you’re going to see a hallucination, it might as well — it could be a cartoon as easily as it could be another human being, so I think it’s done very well.”

DAVID BOREANAZ - “FBI Special Agent Seeley Booth”

Re: Mötley Crüe appearing on BONES…
“It’s pretty wild. Any time you have like a major sound stage and you have a great rock and roll band come in and play it, I remember seeing the Eagles at Warner Bros. and they played live there in, I think it was like ‘93 or ‘94. There’s just a surreal component to it when it all comes together and you’ve got four cameras rolling, it’s amazing to see how it all comes together. It couldn’t be better. I mean I think that the fit’s nice. Motley Crue is, you know, “Doctor Feelgood,” those types of songs, what’s going on with the theme of this episode, so it has a lot going on for it and I think the band fits the show perfectly.

Re: What fans can expect from the finale.
“It’s definitely something that’s going to be unique. I mean obviously the characters will get together, but the way it’s done, it’s going to be a lot different than your kind of normal get-in-the bed and do it kind of thing. There’s a whole theme going on here. Motley Crue is in the episode. I think all the characters play on different types of roles and personalities and it’s really a giving back to the audience that’s followed us, and we’ll say, “Oh my god, a character’s doing this or that character’s doing this,” and mainly, these two characters will get together and do the deed.”

Re: Acting with FAMILY GUY’s “Stewie” appears on the Bones Finale
“I got to act with an animated little cartoon guy, so they shot, we shot pretty much all the stuff with a – there was nothing there when I worked with them and they shipped it over to Korea, I think, and they do all the animation, but it’s Booth basically going to the sperm bank to donate sperm to give to her and that unravels and it becomes a bit crazy for him because he’s seeing things, which leads into the season finale of this and he’s got to have an operation.”

EMILY DESCHANEL - “Dr. Temperance Brennan”

Re: The guest stars in the finale
“It’s unlike any episode we’ve ever done before. Number one, Motley Crue is on the show playing in the lab, which is pretty crazy and awesome, and we’ve got so many people who have been on the show before who are coming back. We’ve got all the squints that rotate. Zack is back, so a lot of the fan favorites, all the people have come together and it’s really exciting, I think for anyone who watches the show and likes certain characters, pretty much everyone is in this episode.”

Re: Why Mötley Crüe is on BONES
“We have to have Motley Crue play somewhere, so we decide to change over the whole lab into a night club. It’s kind of a ‘if we build it, they will come situation.’”

Re Tommy Lee’s drumming…”Rock n Roll” Booth & Brennan
“Tommy Lee started playing the drums and that was pretty cool, playing the drums on the set of Bones.”

Re: Fans seeing Booth & Brennan together
“I think that when Booth and Brennan get together, it will happen in a very surprising and strange way, but it is still very much Bones. It’s humorous. As you would imagine, Booth and Brennan getting together could be – it’s romantic, it’s sweet, it’s tender, it’s passionate”.

Re: Fans seeing Booth & Brennan together …
“I think it’s important to, you know, have a big moment like that, that everyone’s been waiting for, to have all of the qualities that we think of as Bones, and I think it lives up to that and it won’t happen when you think it’s going to happen either.”

May 7th, 2009Bones - Emily Deschanel on Booth-Brennan sex

Emily Deschanel admits she finds all the hype surrounding Booth and Brennan’s hookup on Bones next Thursday a little mystifying. “It’s only a few minutes on camera,” she says, “so it feels weird to talk about it so much.” I couldn’t agree more. And to prove it, I’m not going to ask Deschanel… wait a second, did she say a few minutes?! Let’s dish, sister friend!

A lot has been made about what affect the sex will have on Booth and Brennan, but I’m curious what the whole experience has been like for you and David.
EMILY DESCHANEL:
It probably strengthened our friendship, even though this kind of thing can probably ruin a friendship. Honestly, he was such a sweet guy. He was more supportive and concerned for me before we started filming than I would be. He had meetings about it. He’s like, “I don’t want anyone around.” He practically kicked out everyone — even the people who had to be there filming! And it’s a fairly tame scene. He was so protective of me; it was very sweet, actually. He wanted to make sure I felt comfortable. Of course, he also made jokes.

It must have been awkward.
DESCHANEL:
It was awkward, but we were prepared for it. I laughed really hard during our kissing scene last season; it’s just really weird to kiss your co-star. I laughed this time in rehearsal, but I was really proud of myself for not laughing when we actually shot it. And honestly, it is a job. There were technical things we had to worry about.

How drastically will the sex alter the Booth-Brennan relationship?
DESCHANEL:
It definitely changes the dynamic between the characters. But it’s done in a very clever way. [Series creator] Hart Hanson wrote the episode in a way that gets these two characters together — which a lot of the audience was waiting for — but doesn’t dissipate the sexual tension between them and, therefore, ruin the show.

Can you say whether Booth’s medical issues are a factor?
DESCHANEL:
Let’s just say there’s definitely a twist. It’s not a dream, but there are twists. And there are [other] twists at the end of the episode that will be shocking as well.

Does the finale end with a cliffhanger?
DESCHANEL:
A little bit, yeah. It’s not a matter of life or death, but it’s kind of huge. There’s a cliffhanger and it has to do with Booth and Brennan relationship. It puts their relationship in jeopardy.

Is anyone leaving the show?
DESCHANEL:
Not anyone that people love.

Re: Motley Crue guest-starring in the season finale
“Motley Crue man, yeah. My, my 15-year-old male self was freaking out. Was, was very jealous of me. I don’t know, I don’t know what that means but I did feel like I should be a 15-year-old boy or something. Yeah it was pretty crazy to have Motley Crew on set. Very different, very different. I would never dreamed that I would have Motley Crue on the set of Bones, in my wildest dreams, so pretty crazy. Or Stewie from The Family Guy that’s almost more crazy.”

Re: The season finale is not your usual “Bones” episode
“Yes, very different. I’m not allowed to talk about it that much. I mean I, I can only reveal certain things but yeah you definitely see different sides of Booth and Brennan and all of the characters really. It’s a great episode that brings back a lot of characters that people have seen and really like from past episodes and brings them all together. But there’s, you know, kind of unique situations so it brings out different sides of people. And you know lots of twists and turns, and Motley Crue’s in there and, it’s almost like a film noir kind of episode.”

Re: Booth and Brennan finally getting into bed together
“Well, I mean you know in the final episode Booth and Brennan are in bed together and we shot that already, but I think it will happen in a way that will surprise people and at the same time will be very much Booth and Brennan. You know there’s humor, there’s passion, there’s, there’s romance but you know it’s very much in the vein of our show and the characters’ relationship. And so, it’s pretty different. And I think that it’s done in a way that doesn’t, you know, totally ruin the sexual tension for future episodes. It will definitely make things more interesting and add a whole new element to our relationship in the future but it’s not done in a way that dissipates our sexual tension. And so that’s a, you know that’s what I was concerned about and I think everybody was concerned. So I think it’s successful in that way”.

Re: how the season finale will affect things going into next season
“I’ve heard many little things about Season 5. You know they’re just beginning to write that now so you know I know less than what they know and they don’t know very much. So I know kind of because it ends with a kind of cliffhangerish thing. I know a little bit what happens after that but it’s hard for me to talk about it without people having seen the episode. But definitely Booth and Brennan will have a new dynamic the beginning of Season 5. As you would imagine since we end up, we’re in bed together in the end of Season 4 but it will, we will have a whole new dynamic the beginning of Season 5. Our relationship will change”

Re: will we continue to see the post-Zack intern rotation next season?
“Yeah, I believe so. I think we’re going to continue that for a little while. You know at a certain point we might need to make a decision but for now, we are, I think everyone’s enjoying having these different characters coming through and the, the different elements that they bring to each episode. And it’s great, all of the different Zack replacements, if you want to call them, squints, squints, rotating squints, they’re all in the – or not all but a lot of them are in the finale along with Zack and so that’s fun to have all of them together.”
