September 5th, 2008Bones - Season Four Premiere on FOX - “Yanks in the U.K.”

Show:
Bones (FOX)
Episode: “Yanks in the U.K., Parts 1 & 2″ - Season Premiere (Season 4)
Premiere Date: Wednesday, September 3rd, 2008
Rating: 3.5 out of 4 Stars

Quick Synopsis: The title pretty much says it all.

Long Synopsis: Agent Booth was invited to speak at Scotland Yard and Dr. Brennan was invited to speak at Oxford. While in London, the daughter of a prominent American living there is killed. Booth and Bones are asked to help out with the case. They work with their mirrored counterparts on the case. After finishing the investigation they are about to leave, when their skills are required on another case that may be related to the first one.

Review:
Bones is always a fun time, but this fish out of water version kicks it up a notch. They sure had a lot of fun with the differences between England and here in the States, which included some really funny scenes.

David Boreanaz’s Booth gets to have the most fun with these differences, from wanting a cup of coffee to driving a Mini.

But, as usual, some of the most fun is had back in the lab at the Jeffersonian. Clark Edison, played by Eugene Byrd (Crossing Jordan), is working for Dr. Brennan in place of Eric Millegan’s Dr. Addy. He keeps getting caught up in all the things happening around him and he just wants to do his work. While you can see some of them coming, watching him squirm while having to hear about them is pretty good.

The cast has really come together, although it was weird not having Dr. Addy around. His matter-of-fact logical reactions were some of the better moments on the show. While I really Dr. Sweets, played by John Francis Daley (Freaks and Geeks), his presence doesn’t really make up for the loss, which is readily evident in this episode.

Overall, Bones is always worth watching, but here on a Wednesday night that hasn’t had anything worth watching all summer, it is a definite must watch. When the rest of the networks get up and running this fall, it will be in competition with America’s Next Top Model on The CW, Knight Rider on NBC, Pushing Daisies on ABC, and The New Adventures of Old Christine and its new companion Gary Unmarried on CBS.

Bones season four premieres tonight, Wednesday, September 3rd on FOX.

Here is the synopsis of the season premiere of Bones. This episode will air on September 3, 2008.

Grayson “Birimbau” Barasa, aka Angela’s husband, finally surfaces. He doesn’t want to sign the divorce papers, claiming that he still loves Angela. She told him that she now loves Hodgins but Birimbau doesn’t want to listen. He reminds her of the night they met and how they both felt in the hope that Angela’s love for him comes back. Later, Hodgins meets with Birimbau at a diner to have him sign the papers. Birimbau tells Hodgins that he has been looking for Angela for the past four years and that he even built her a house in Florida so there is no way he will let her go without a fight. Angela and Sweets meet Hodgins and Birimbau outside of the diner. Hodgins and Birimbau start to fight and Sweets joins in on the action before Angela walks off. One of the London folks Brennan and Booth interact with is Inspector Cate Pritchard.

August 12th, 2008‘Bones’ Season Four Spoilers; ‘Chuck’ Preview

Occasionally one of the compelling lead actors of a show grabs attention both in character and out of it. David Boreanaz is one of those actors. Famous for starring in “Buffy the Vampire Slayer” and “Angel,” the playful prankster now stars aside Emily Deschanel in the crime dramedy “Bones.”

During the “Bones” panel at Comic Con on Friday, July 25, Boreanaz brought a bright energy and excitement to the crowd when they would usually be winding down after a long day. The panel consisted of Boreanaz, creator Hart Hanson, and actors Michaela Conlin, Tamara Taylor, and John Francis Daley. The hour began at least twenty minutes of footage from a season four episode. It showcased a new annoying assistant for Dr. Brennan (Deschanel), more jealousy/flirting on the part of Booth (Boreanaz) and Brennan, and a gruesome Port-o-potty accident. Be careful for below are spoilers for the upcoming season!

It looks like there is plenty of romantic drama in the works for the hardworking squints, as Angela (Conlin) will apparently be reunited with an ex-girlfriend, her husband will be found, and Cam (Taylor) is hooking up with one of Angela’s exes. Could it possibly be Hodgins (TJ Thyme)? What does this mean for Hodgins and Angela? Uh oh! Hanson did directly reveal that before the end of the season, Booth and Brennan will be in bed together naked. Shippers from all over the fan world rejoiced as one! Sweets (Daly) may also gain a romantic interest, but it seems more of his attention will be on gaining a sure place in the gang and earning their trust.

Hanson discussed briefly the falling out with the fans over the tragic end of last season and Zack’s position in it. The show did suffer due to the writer’s strike, and half of the season’s initial plans had to be rearranged. Originally the betrayal of Zack was drawn out more believably, and Hanson seemed genuinely grieved that it could not work as well as they’d hoped. There was a question regarding why the restaurants changed in the show - from a special Chinese restaurant to a regular diner - and it was all about physical logistics of where to shoot.

Overall Boreanaz charmed and dominated with his zingers, such as when an audience member asked about the biggest pet peeves the cast had with one another. He teased his friends on the stage, and in reference to Angela and her girlfriend, quipped that “Booth’s gotta get in on that.” It is good to see that “Bones” is still going strong, and whether or not the consummation of Booth and Brennan’s relationship will curse it or strengthen it, the fans will just have to watch and see.

Another comedy-action show starring an alumnus of Joss Whedon’s world is “Chuck,” now about to enter its second season. This panel included all of the major actors and the show leaders: Josh Schwartz, Chris Fedak, Zachary Levi, Yvonne Strahovski, Adam Baldwin, Sarah Lancaster, Ryan McPartlin and Joshua Gomez. The show is about Chuck (Levi), who downloads a file from his former college roommate and ends up with all the most important government secrets and files transmitted onto his brain. The FBI and CIA give him two agents - Sarah (Strahovski) and Casey (Baldwin) - to protect him. The cast fills out with Chuck’s best friend Morgan (Gomez), sister Ellie (Lancaster), and her awesome boyfriend Captain Awesome (McPartlin.)

A trailer for next season showed that there will be more romance this year as well, and the relationship between Chuck and Sarah will change. They are seen to kiss several times and even go out on a real date. Ellie and Awesome are heading toward the wedding date, and the audience will get to meet Awesome’s family (yay!). Casey also gets the kill order for Chuck…has the lovable geek finally gotten under his skin, or will he do his duty without regret? Guest stars Tony Hale and Melinda Clarke will lighten up the show, and yes, Nicole Richie fights Sarah and kicks some spy booty.

The creators revealed that the second season will involve more of “Chuck” mythology and why exactly he was given the information. Bryce will be returning, and Chuck may go back to college or his lack of degree will be addressed. The cast members impersonated one another, with Levi doing an obnoxious Australian accent and Gomaz impersonating Captain Awesome. Baldwin got the most attention and screams in the room, probably because he inspires the cult fandom from “Firefly,” and Levi joked that even if they all left the stage, everyone would stay for Baldwin. This was completely true.

The show will return on September 29 on NBC, and the panel encouraged the fans to get the word out. Apparently it too has suffered due to the writer’s strike and was cut short, which could be potentially fatal for a brand new show. Then again, “Chuck” had a great deal of hype and popularity, appealing to a wide variety of audiences and tastes, so it stands to reason the show will thrive. The choice is up to you, loving television viewers, support the Geek Squad!

Birth name:             David Patrick Boreanaz
Date of birth (location):    16 May 1971, Buffalo, New York, USA

David Boreanaz made a name for himself playing a blood-sucking vampire with a soul on “Buffy the Vampire Slayer” (WB, UPN, 1997-2003) and “Angel” (WB, 1999-2004) as well as a former Army sniper who keeps company with decomposing corpses on “Bones TV Show” (Fox, 2005-). Onscreen and offscreen, the actor endeared himself to legions of fans pleased to discover that the ripped actor who was no stranger to “Sexiest People” tabloid lists was a dog-loving, down-to-earth guy who cited his Philadelphia weatherman father as one of his biggest influences. With each film role that showed his comedic or guy-next-door capacity, he was successfully able to dodge an eternity of special appearances at Sci-Fi conventions.

Boreanaz was born in Buffalo, NY, and moved to Philadelphia, PA when he was seven years-old. His father was a weatherman for WPVI in Philadelphia and host of a local kids TV show called “Rocket Ship 7.” This early exposure to show business was an influence on Boreanaz, and once he saw Yul Brynner in “The King and I” his acting aspirations were solidified. After heading back to Upstate New York to study acting at Ithaca College, Boreanaz made his way to Los Angeles to give it his best shot.

The tall, handsome, intense-looking actor was virtually unknown when he was cast as Angel in “Buffy The Vampire Slayer” in 1997. He had caught one break – playing a biker boyfriend of Kelly Bundy on an episode of “Married…With Children” (Fox, 1987-1997) – but for the most part, Boreanaz was honing real life roles as parking attendant, house painter, and a health club guy. With only a few stage credits to his name, Boreanaz was walking his dog one day when he was literally discovered by a talent manager and cast as Angel shortly thereafter.

The Joss Whedon creation “Buffy The Vampire Slayer” was based on a 1992 film of the same name, and centered around Buffy Summers (Sarah Michelle Gellar), a typical teenage girl who was chosen by fate to battle vampires and demons in a suburban California town that happened to be a Hellmouth. In the dark yet hilarious series, Angel was a vampire dweller of that netherworld, and therefore, the worst possible boyfriend for a vampire slayer. The two had an on-and-off love affair for three seasons until Angel left town to search for redemption in the least likely place one could find it - Los Angeles. The spin-off series devoted to this search debuted in 1999 and in it, Angel worked as a private detective trying to “help the helpless” and repent for a hundred years of torture and murder. By season five, his cast of sidekicks had changed several times and Angel was now working at a law firm with the aim of fighting evil from the inside. Much to the surprise and dismay of loyal fans and Whedon alike, the WB announced in 2004 that the show would not return for a sixth season.

By this time, Boreanaz had been steadily working as an actor for seven years, including many non-Angel roles that would prepare him for new acting frontiers. He had snagged roles in several feature films including the 2001 slasher flick, “Valentine, ” the romantic comedy “I’m With Lucy” (2002), and the fourth in “The Crow” series entitled “Wicked Prayer” (2004).

Barely a year after Angel’s demise, the FX network thought he would be perfect in the role of Special Agent Seeley Booth – FBI homicide investigator and foil to forensic pathologist Dr. Temperence Brennan (Emily Deschanel) in the medical mystery series, “Bones.” Booth was all about old-fashioned detective work and Brennan staunchly scientific – and not surprisingly, never the twain would they meet. The chemistry between the two opposing forces was an immediate hit, and audiences fell for the classic TV device: will they ever hook up?

Boreanaz continued to build his film resume with a starring role opposite Anne Heche in the Alan Cumming black comedy “Suffering Man’s Charity.” His low-profile personal life included involvement with PETA charities and marriage to model and former “Son of the Beach” (FX, 2000-01) star, Jamie Bergman, whom he married in 2001.

American actress Emily Deschanel was born on October 11, 1976, in Los Angeles, Calif. Emily is a graduate of Boston University’s Professional Actors Training Program. She made her film debut in 1994 in the movie “It Could Happen to You” and she also has guest starred in the television shows “Crossing Jordan” and “Law & Order: Special Victim’s Unit.” Emily has the main role of Dr. Temperance ‘Bones’ Brennan in the hit TV series “Bones.” She has a sister Zooey Deschanel, who also is an actress.
An actress whose piercing, pale blue eyes could give even Meg Foster a run for her money, Emily Deschanel has come quite a long way since being listed as one of Interview magazine’s “Six Actors to Watch” back in 2001. The firstborn daughter of Oscar-winning cinematographer Caleb Deschanel and actress Mary Jo Weir (their second was starlet Zooey), Emily received her B.F.A. in theater from Boston University before launching her career on the stage and screen. Early roles in It’s a Shame About Ray and Rose Red found the rising starlet gradually gaining her footing before the cameras, and as her confidence as an actress increased, so did her screen time.

By the time Deschanel appeared in such features as Cold Mountain and The Alamo, viewers were already beginning to pick up on her talent, while she could also still be seen acting on-stage, frequently appearing in plays for the Interact Theatre Company. In 2003, Deschanel appeared in minor capacity as a receptionist in Sam Raimi’s Spider-Man 2, with her role in Ghost House Pictures’ 2004 frightener Boogeyman serving to prove that she was much more than just another pretty face.

In 2005, Deschanel successfully made the transition to the small screen with her role as forensic anthropologist Dr. Temperance “Bones” Brennan, partner of FBI agent Seeley Booth (David Boreanaz), on the Fox crime drama series Bones TV Show. As Dr. Brennan, the increasingly prominent star proved an invaluable help in solving some of the most perplexing crimes by helping to identify bodies and to determine the cause of death via their skeletal remains.
